Little Lambs of the Good Shepherd School, the
preschool of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Holmdel, will hold its
second annual benefit concert on Saturday, August 21 at 7:30 pm at the church.
The talented performers include JO ELLEN MILLER, Soprano, MIRA KANG,
Cello, and MIAE PARK, Organ.
Jo Ellen will perform works by Mozart in Latin and Italian, several
Brahms songs in German, and a set of English songs. Miae will accompany her on the organ, and her mother Pat
Miller will accompany on piano. Mira
will perform Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 and Edward Elgar’s Salute d' Amor.
The finale will be Bach’s complete Cantata 51, Jauchzet Gott in allen
Landen, sung in German with organ and cello accompaniment.
Jo Ellen is a 2005 candidate for Master of Music
degree in vocal performance at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor,
attending on a full university scholarship.
She recently performed the role of Zerlina in Mozart’s opera Don
Giovanni. Last summer Jo Ellen
performed professionally with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera in several
musicals. She graduated from
Carnegie Mellon University in 2003 with a BFA in music - vocal performance.
While at CMU she performed leading roles in the operas Gianni Schicchi
and Die Fledermaus, and attended the solisti program of the Opera
Festival of Lucca in Italy. Jo
Ellen is a graduate of Middletown HS South, having performed in many of the
school’s plays as well as with many local theater groups such as Phoenix,
Monmouth County Parks, and Premier. She won college scholarships from several
local groups, including All-Shore Chorus and Monmouth Civic Chorus.
Mira Kang
is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts at Rutgers University, where she
was awarded a full scholarship and worked as a part-time lecturer.
Mira made her debut at the age of seventeen as a cello soloist with the
Seoul Civic Orchestra, Korea. The
success of this performance brought her an appearance on an MBC Broadcast in
Korea as a featured artist in a classical music program. Before coming to the
US, she actively performed throughout Korea, including the “Young Performer's
Ensemble Series” of the Seoul International Music Festival. She graduated with
a Bachelor of Music degree from Seoul National University.
She continued her study at the Manhattan School of Music for a Master of
Music degree. In 1997 Mira made her New York debut recital in Carnegie Hall as a
winner of the Artist International award. As a soloist and an ensemble player
she actively performs throughout the Northeastern US and Europe. Until her very
recent move to Columbia, NJ, Mira was associated with Monmouth Grace Church of
Eatontown and had a local cello studio.
Miae Park is the Minister of Music at Lutheran
Church of the Good Shepherd, as organist and director of all the choirs, vocal
and handbell. She is a candidate
for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance from New England
Conservatory of Music in Boston. She holds Master of Music degrees in Organ and
Church Music from New England Conservatory and Westminster Choir College.
She teaches piano lessons locally. Last
summer Miae performed an outstanding solo recital at Holmdel Community Church;
this was the first benefit event for the Little Lambs School.
The Little Lambs School opened in 2003.
The school has grown rapidly to over 55 students registered for Fall
2004, in classes for 2 ½ years through Kindergarten enrichment.
Little Lambs is managed by Director Barbara Benson and Pastor David
Louder and is dedicated to providing early learning with God’s love. The
