Pastor David Louder, on left and Mrs. Barbara Benson unpack a few last minute items for the classroom activities of the newly formed Little Lambs of the Good Shepherd School
The preparations for the start of the school year are always hectic for teachers and administrators, but even more so if a school is opening for the very first time. Such is the case for Mrs. Barbara Benson, director of the new Little Lambs of the Good Shepherd Pre-School in Holmdel. Located in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, the school has fully renovated the space, which had previously been rented by a local day care center. From floor to ceiling, furniture to educational materials, the classrooms are new, bright and inviting.
"It's been an exciting time for us, but also very busy. We are so fortunate to have a congregation dedicated to the support of the school. The efforts to get the classrooms up and running in such a short time have been incredible!" Mrs. Benson happily reported.
Mrs. Benson has extensive experience in the early childhood community. Most recently as the founding director of King of Kings School Middletown, Mrs. Benson has been a respected advocate of developmentally appropriate practice. A member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 1986 she has worked in this field for other highly respected schools serving as a teacher for Castleton Hill Moravian Pre-School, Staten Island and Red Oak School, Red Bank as well . Her Bachelors course work majored in Music and Elementary Education, and her Masters studies in Early Childhood Education.
School will open on Monday, September 8 with a parent and student orientation. The Reverend David K. Louder, celebrating his first anniversary with the Holmdel church this summer, will lead a dedication celebration on Sunday, September 14 during a 12:30 to 3PM Open House reception. All are invited to attend. The school offers morning classes for both 3 and 4 year olds. Classes meet from 9:15 until 11:45. The school is recognized by the Evangelical Lutheran Educational Association, and the New Jersey State Department of Youth and Family Services. Mrs. Benson can be contacted for additional information and registration. The school telephone number is (732) 842-1911. They are located at 112 Middletown Road, near the corner of Crawfords Corner-Everett Road, approximately half a mile from exit 114 of the Garden State Parkway.
